Only 3 Ingredients for Blackberry Jam

Jam without Pectin

By Tracy Bush-Hatcher, publisher of Macaroni KID Chattanooga TN July 18, 2023

Let's keep this simple. I have always wanted to make my own homemade jam, but without all the extra ingredients you find in the jar at your local grocery store. Well, I got a simple 3 ingredient recipe for Blackberry Jam. Plus, you do not need any pectin.

 All you need is:

  • Fresh blackberries (2 cups)
  • Granulated Sugar (1/4 cup)
  • Lemon Juice (1/4 cup)

You can add as much or less of the ingredients as you need.  That was the measure to make my two small mason jars.

Make sure you rinse off your berries to remove any insects and dirt.

Step One: Add berries to the pot. Smash them inside the pot.

Step Two: Add Sugar and Lemon Juice.

Note: It may seem like there is not enough liquid in the pot, but it is. The berries will make plenty of liquid for you.

Step Three:  Bring berries to a boil for about 10 minutes. It will start to foam That is ok. Continue to stir.

Step Four:  Bring heat down to a slow simmer for about 20 minutes. Continue to stir every so often.

Step Five:  Have 30 minutes of cooking. Let sit for about an hour to cool down. That will allow your jam to thicken.

Step Six:  It is ready! Place in your favorite storage container and store in the refrigerator. It should last a good 3 to 4 months shelf life in the refrigerator.

This is such a simple and delicious recipe. Enjoy!
